CFD modelling of a fan with a cycloidal rotor

Abstract Despite the wide possibilities of using a cycloidal rotor in form propulsion systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), propellers sea-going ships, rotors wind turbines or sea river energy converters, there is practically no research on use this solution fan (CRF) HVAC (heat, ventilation & air conditioning) applications. The main features such machine, compared to conventional solutions, possibility changing flow direction only by pitch angles blades. This study analysed two variants fan, first equipped with an asymmetrical CLARK Y profile, and other symmetrical NACA0012. Numerical simulation developed Ansys CFX was presented, that enables operation. results obtained from CFD both were those during experimental measurements made Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA). comparison showed good agreement between numerical analysis performed experiment. operation based same regulation settings rotation speed, blades slightly more curved angle than one.
